UI and interface setup

Forever uses the modern game's interface tools, so you can build a clean screen without addons. Start with the preset, then Edit Mode, then the built-in combat tools.

1. Pick an Experience Preset

The first time you log in, before you pick a ruleset, the game asks you to choose a preset. It's a starting point, not a lock: change any setting later in Game Menu, Options. Blizzard's advice if you're unsure: Enhanced.

The original-look preset is the first of the two options on the screen. HD or SD models can also be set per character and changed later in Options or at a Barbershop. You see the preset screen only once.

2. Arrange your screen in Edit Mode

OPEN IT

Esc, then Edit Mode. Click any frame to move or resize it: action bars, unit frames, minimap, chat, Cooldown Manager, Damage Meter.

SAVE LAYOUTS

Save a layout and switch per character or role, for example a healer layout with big party frames.

SHARE A LAYOUT

Layouts can be exported and imported as a text code from the layout dropdown in Edit Mode. Only import codes from people you trust. UNCONFIRMED

3. Turn on the built-in combat tools

All are off by default and live in Options (Advanced Options in current guides). Turn them on, then place them in Edit Mode.

ToolWhat it does
Cooldown ManagerShows your key cooldowns, buffs, trinkets and potions. Setup guide
Damage MeterDamage, healing and more per fight, with extra windows from the gear menu.
Swing TimerShows when your next auto-attack lands. Useful for warriors, rogues, hunters and feral druids.
Click CastingKey Bindings > Click Casting. Healers click party frames to cast.

4. Options worth changing on day one

5. A simple, readable layout

Chat (bottom-left also works)
Minimap, quest tracker
Party / raid frames
Keep the center clear: this is where you look
Damage Meter

Target

Keep your own frame, target and cooldowns in a tight triangle under your character so your eyes move less.

6. Then add addons, if you want

Full UI replacements like ElvUI have Forever versions. Old addons and WeakAuras don't. See Addons that work on Forever.

PREVIEW
Menu names come from Blizzard's starter guide and beta-era guides. The launch client may label some options differently.
