Addons that work on WoW Forever

Forever runs on the modern game client with the same combat limits addons got in Midnight. Old addons and WeakAuras don't work. Here is what does, what's built in, and how to set up the Cooldown Manager.

Does WeakAuras work on Forever?

No. WeakAuras has no Forever version. Forever hides much of the combat data from addons and blocks the combat log, so aura addons had to be rebuilt. Two forks by other authors and one long-running addon fill the gap:

MUSCA AURAS

WeakAuras 5.22.0 ported to Forever. Click Install HUD on the welcome popup for a ready-made class layout, or type /wa. Warns you before importing auras that can't work on Forever.

A WeakAuras fork made for Forever. Open it with /fa. The author lists it as under development during beta.

Per Musca Auras' own notes. Forks aren't made by the WeakAuras team: check the author, the date and the source before installing. Don't install two WeakAuras builds side by side; Musca Auras uses the same folder name on purpose.

Set up the Cooldown Manager

TURN IT ON

Press Esc, open Options.
Find the Cooldown Manager toggle and enable it. It's off by default. Guides place it under Advanced Options or Gameplay Enhancement; the label may differ at launch. UNCONFIRMED
Open Edit Mode (Esc menu) to move and size it.
Type /cdm to choose which spells appear.

WHAT TO TRACK

Essential: your rotation cooldowns (e.g. Mortal Strike, Mind Blast, Fire Blast).
Utility: interrupt, crowd control, defensives.
Buffs: procs and self-buffs you must keep up (Slice and Dice, Seals).
Items: trinkets and potions.

It reads from your buffs and action bars. It isn't a full WeakAuras replacement: no custom triggers or rotation help.

Installing

In the CurseForge or Wago app, choose the Forever game version. Or download the Forever file by hand.
Addons go in Interface\AddOns inside the Forever game folder. Open it from Battle.net: Forever, the cog next to Play, Show in Explorer/Finder. Guides report the folder as World of Warcraft\_forever_\Interface\AddOns (create Interface and AddOns if missing). UNCONFIRMED
Check the depth: AddOns\Questie\Questie.toc, not a folder inside a folder.
Restart the game and tick the addon in the AddOns list at character select.

Starter packs

NEW PLAYER

Questie, Leatrix Plus and the built-in Damage Meter. Nothing else needed.

DUNGEONS & RAIDS

DBM or BigWigs (not both), Details! or the built-in meter, Plater, and the Cooldown Manager.

TRADER

Auctionator, Baganator (with Syndicator) and AtlasLoot (Forever version by Sliccer) to see what drops where.

Undying suggestions from the directory above. Fewer addons means fewer things to break on patch day.

When an addon doesn't show up

Problem	Fix
Not in the AddOns list	Wrong game folder (another WoW version) or a folder inside a folder. The .toc file must sit one level under AddOns.
Marked Out of date	It wasn't made for Forever's version. Get the Forever file, or tick Load out of date AddOns at your own risk.
Dependency missing	Install the library or core addon it needs, e.g. Syndicator for Baganator.
CurseForge can't find Forever	Scan for games, or add the game manually by picking the Forever client folder (not AddOns, not the .exe).
Changes not showing	Type /reload, or restart the game fully after adding files.

What addons can't do on Forever

Blizzard's rule since Midnight: addons can change how information looks, but they shouldn't make combat decisions for you. Some combat values are hidden from addons as “secrets”, and beta changes stopped addons from detecting your layer. Addons can still restyle raid frames, nameplates, action bars and fonts.
